This month, the FDA approves sildenafil, the active ingredient in the FDA-approved drug Viagra, to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).

“This is an important step in bringing affordable, effective ED treatment to millions of men,” said Janet Woodcock, director of the National Institutes of Health and the director of the NIH’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
In addition, the FDA’s announcement will expand the drug’s market to a total of 36 states and Washington, D. C. and Puerto Rico, with states in the area helping more people get prescription ED medications.
